I research and teach ethics and political philosophy, including the philosophy of well-being. I also have related interests in feminist philosophy, philosophy of law, and the history of ethics and political philosophy. My book, The Well-Rounded Life, is currently under contract with Princeton University Press.

Before coming to Rice, I taught at Oberlin College, Rhode Island College, and UNC Chapel Hill. I received my PhD in philosophy from UC San Diego and my BA in philosophy and government from Claremont McKenna College.

My work has been supported by the US Department of Education (the Jacob K. Javits Fellowship), the American Association of University Women (the American Fellowship), the National Endowment for the Humanities (a Summer Stipend), and the Marc Sanders Foundation (the Philosophy in Media Fellowship).
