Ali Garib

Ali Garib is an educator and educational technologist. He serves as an Assistant Teaching Professor and Assistant Director of Digital Technology in the School of Natural Sciences at Rice University, where he teaches courses in communication, educational technology, and writing with generative artificial intelligence, and leads initiatives supporting the integration of digital technologies across the curriculum. He earned his Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics and Technology from Iowa State University, an M.A. in TESOL and Educational Technology from the University of Manchester, and an M.A. in Applied Linguistics from Arizona State University. He is a Fulbright and Chevening alumnus. Ali’s research explores how emerging technologies reshape higher education and faculty practices, with specific focus on generative artificial intelligence and experiential learning. He has presented his work at international conferences including the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education, Technology for Second Language Learning, and the European Association of Computer Assisted Language Learning. His scholarship has appeared in leading journals and edited volumes such as Computers and Composition, the TPACK Handbook for Educators, TESOL Quarterly, and Emerging Technologies Transforming Higher Education. Before joining Rice, Ali worked with organizations such as ACTFL and World Learning and held academic appointments at Iowa State University and the Lebanese American University. He has taught in a wide range of international contexts and brings more than a decade of experience teaching communication, faculty professional development, and educational technology to learners and educators from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. In addition to his teaching and research, Ali collaborates with faculty and graduate students on school-wide programming and instructional design, supports the responsible adoption of AI and other digital technologies in the Natural Sciences, and serves as a liaison to Rice Digital Learning and the Office of Transformational Technology and Innovation.
