Interrogating the Documentary Turn: Emergence and Aesthetic of Documentary Practices in Video Art at Documenta 11, Kassel

Amani Mekki specializes in contemporary art, with a particular focus on documentary video practices within major international exhibitions such as Documenta 11 in Kassel. Her research examines moving-image works and the shifting conditions through which cinema enters the exhibition space. More broadly, her interests lie in the economies and institutional frameworks in which these media emerge and circulate, including galleries, cinemas, and large-scale international exhibitions. Through an art historical and theoretical approach, her work explores how documentary aesthetics reshape modes of representation and renegotiate the relationship between images, space, and the real.
