As Associate Director for Equitable Research, Evaluation, and Grant Development at the Rice Office of STEM Engagement (R-STEM), Christina works to broaden the mission of Rice University K-12 programs to promote asset-based equitable environments for underserved and marginalized populations within STEM and guide Houston area secondary science teachers in the use of inquiry and project-based methods when covering science and engineering concepts.
Christina works on NSF-funded projects, including NanoEnabled Water Treatment (NEWT) Center's Nanotechnology Environmental Engineering for Teachers (NEET) and Research Experience for Teachers (RET) as a pre-college lead, and Inclusive Learning through Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences (ILEEPS) as Co-PI.
She is currently seeking her Ph.D. from the University of Houston, studying the Racialized Experiences of Black females who left K-12 science teaching.
As the Chair of the Pre-College Commission for Diversity Equity & Inclusion - American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE), Christina works to educate K-12 teachers on essential issues, policies, and practices for promoting inclusive mindsets and behaviors. Christina believes the world and the humans that live in it are only truly valued when individuals come together to share unique, diverse, and sometimes opposing perspectives. The celebration of diversity and the inclusion of all ideas creates a critical consciousness of the world today and paves the way for a sustainable and prosperous future.
